Notice, when I change the criteria slightly, putting the cup on the table instead of holding it over the edge, Euclid hesitates. For many animals, a change in stimulus elicits a change in behavior. Euclid correctly guesses that I want him to continue putting toys in the cup, and has no further problems. Video duration: 76 seconds Staring Euclid. At this point, Euclid knows how to do the "drop toys in a cup" trick. Now, he has a toy, but how to get it in this strange new cup? Most of the top is blocked. He learns to align the toy with its proper hole. Notice, when he finally gets it right, he "acts mad" after getting only a crumb, and not a seed, as a reward. Video duration: 131 seconds Starring Euclid. This is when Euclid was learning to go through a hoop. First, I let him touch the hoop and just check it out so as not to be nervous about it. Then I praise him for interacting with the hoop. When he sticks his head through, he gets not only praise, but a treat. Soon, he goes all the way through the hoop several times in a row. Video duration: 11 seconds My Quaker parrot, or Monk parakeet, shows off his "go through the hoop" trick. His got the limited hold down to a couple of seconds now. He gets a seed for a reward. Normally he eats pellets, fruits, veggies pasta and other foods. Seeds are a special treat.
